l8nite New tank journal thread is here. The Marineland Hex 5 is going to be sold/given away. This will probably be my last post in this thread.

l8nite Alpha got a tank upgrade last night! He's on his way to high-tech land. I picked up a used ADA-30C, got it scaped & planted last night, but no pictures yet. I'll take some today

l8nite Alpha got a new tank mate today. We'll see how they do together, their first encounter was a little aggressive with Alpha getting ahold of his foot...

I'm still too ashamed to post a FTS of the Dora The Explorer crap in my tank...

l8nite Snapped a new profile picture of Alpha - really shows off his colors I think

Also managed to get a shot of one of the two Ghost Shrimp which live in the tank (unnamed):

And a picture of Spots (the spotted Nerite) hanging out on his favorite rock:

Stripes got his very own motion picture!

l8nite Quick tank update. Mémère bought my daughter a pirate ship and a Dora the Explorer pirate to put in Alpha's tank for christmas...

We'll be setting those up later today, and I'll post some pictures tonight.

They're called power squids, the one in that stand is made by Power Sentry.

So, in the past week I've seen him flared up and ramming himself into the lighter-colored Nerite repeatedly, haha. It's funny to watch. The snail doesn't appear to be any worse for the wear.

Thanks! So far not that I've noticed. There are two large nerites (quarter-sized) and two adult ghost shrimp in there, but they have a pretty decent sized growth of java moss to hide in.

l8nite The Bacopa in this tank was starting to melt away completely. I think it might be due to lack of light. I had some root tabs in there, but the light is positioned so that it really only shines down on the front half of the tank. I took them all out and positioned the rocks towards the back, then floated the remaining bacopa stems in my 29G. I'll see about planting them there this weekend.

Alpha built his first bubble-nest last weekend. I was a little sad to have to disrupt it when doing his water change, but I guess that means he's happy

l8nite Took some new pictures on a whim today:

l8nite Alpha is happy - I am still letting my daughter feed him (with some gentle guidance and reminders about how much to put in), but I think he's being overfed.

I didn't feed him on Sunday per some reading I did about Bettas and over-feeding. Today he got some freeze-dried bloodworms, which he will eat straight from your fingertips.

The Bacopa Monnieri and Java Moss I got from aweeby are starting to grow! I noticed that some of the stems are at least an inch taller than when I planted them.

My two nerites were hanging out together on one of the stones in the tank this morning, maybe it's love?

Pretty sure about this. I can find the other two without too much trouble, but I've looked up and down the tank and can't see the little one.

Alpha and his tankmates are all doing great now. I'm glad I was patient with the fishless cycling on this one, it seems like everything in the tank is doing well, and my daughter loves saying good morning to him, helping feed him, giving his tank kisses, etc.
