The fan is in there because OEBTs get bacterial infections easily and that tends to occur at above 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer gets hot here and with an open top running a fan 24/7 would cause too much evaporation --> temperature controller that controls the heat and fan. Tank stays at around 72 nicely 24/7
Filtration AC20 and a Rio+ 50 running a UGF to help with biofiltration.
BTW most of the time the cables are velcroed together but I pulled a few things off this tank and have been too lazy to care. Basically because I went with such a small tank I took precautions to make it all work. It might be swapped out for a 45-P copy once the parameters start getting wild due to substrate degradation.
The only real mess are the plants that are all tangled up. Most likely going to remove that and replace with moss and driftwood.
TDS: 175-260 - I use TDS as a marker for when to change water trying to keep the water consistent for as long as possible
They are slower growers than neos they need good staple food to grow to breeding size. I had one berried but it looked like it was her first time because she kicked a lot of the eggs. Well hopefully it's her first, she is still small and haven't been in the tank long. From my last colony I found it best to be patient. I dosed some dance and now the rallies are all prego but the OEBT seem to be straggling behind.

What are the ideal parameters for OEBT to breed? I have had mine in the tank for about a month and a half now and sadly no berries... then again it took my CRS ages.. now they are baby machines
PS Thanks for the link on the temp controller! I have the same one sitting in my workshop for a while now.. i have been meaning to build a case for it

|Aquatic-Prodigy||what a mess with all those cords and why do you have so much equipment in such a small tank|
|03-03-2014 05:55 AM|
http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/no ebay links allowed..-build-163849/
And you can just purchase any stc1000 temperature controller for 110v. Ebay and amazon has them now.
The box containing all the equipment is just project box from radio shack.

Can you link where you got the temp controller? I wanna build something just like that.
Can you help with the info?

I miss how clean this tank used to look. But I am happy that the OEBTs are happier than they have ever been. The tank went through a tough period while I studied for the Bar so the entire OEBT population died off. I was left with Rilis and snails. I ended up getting some OEBT from Ark and Dukenbears to restart my colony.
Before: Even with foam just floating around it looked pretty clean
If the breeder box wasn't working as another filter element I would take it off the tank. I originally upgraded the tank with a ZooMed 511 in addition to the existing filtration setup but moved it to my new Taiwan Bee setup. So I moved the AC20 over to this tank. For some reason I can get the AC20 to a lower flow rate than the weak ZooMed 511. My problem is that the 511 was too strong for this tank but seems to weak for my 45-P.

|The Big Buddha||Nice controller- I have only seen them with red or blue displays. Could you PM me where you got it? Mine are both red.|

This is not intended to be a vendor review, just a vent of my frustration.
Well after my excitement after finding my first berried OEBT I was greatly disappointed today. I made an order with a vendor that wont be name but all but one of my shrimp from that order arrived dead. Luckily they were not OEBTs but they were supposed to go into this tank. The packaging was not great, compared to the hobbyist that sell here and are not running a business it is horrible. This vendor sells breather bags but does not use them and only wraps the bags containing the shrimp sparsely in newspaper. Some foam insulation would have been nice or at least more newspaper. The bags were filled barely with any water. The shrimp were sent from within the state and I stayed home just to receive them. I greeted the mailman and opened the package immediately. Depending on how this vendor addresses things I might not ever order from the again. Sorry for the rant, but I expect someone who is running an online business to have at least the same packaging standards as hobbyist here. All the shrimp I have ordered from this site have been package professionally. All of them used breather bags and newspapers, but most of them had at least foam insulation and one had fiberglass.
Trying to acclimate and not shock the remaining shrimp is kind of hard. I opened the bag immediately to dump the bag water into my acclimating container, dripped tank water, added some prime, and removed the dead shrimp after the picture below.

The evolve light is now hanging on my breeder box which is currently filled with trims and moss.
My rili tank last time I checked on Tuesday was at: TDS 180; GH 5; KH 1; PH 6.8

If your rilis aren't breeding, check tds and gh/kh/ph to verify that everything is within range.
What happened to the LEDs on your evolve? I had to have aqueous replace one and now my second evolve tank led is failing too.
Nice work on keeping the temps down. Quite some effort but rewarding in the end.

|dubels||I don't know if Azoo Max Breed can take credit for the berried shrimp because my rili tank was fed that too. But right after I started feeding it to my tanks I got berried shrimp. I just recently set up this OEBT tank and the PFR tank has been going for a few months without berried shrimp.|

|flowerfishs||they only berried under the right water condition. My CRS use to breed crazy, but after I redo the tank and they stop breed.|

Found a berried OEBT!!! Don't know if you can see this very clearly but this OEBT is carrying eggs. Now both of my PFR and OEBT tanks have berried females. I wonder why my rili tank hasn't had a berried female yet.
I have to say this shrimp only tank is my new favorite tank. I added some red rilis, blue velvets and other rili mutations into the tank (Bought Xenxes Identity Crisis Rili package). I love sitting at my desk now, the shrimp just zoom around the tank. I am not sure if I will keep the red rilis in this tank for long. I got the package of rilis mainly for the blue velvets, I want to see how the red rili develop and I might use them to diversify my rili tank. I can also see my rili tank and new bowl from my desk.

Got at least one deep blue tiger.
