ichy I got my st. repens from those little packets! Its doing well!

Linwood They are tissue culture, and I bought some red and green crypt wendtii. I was absolutely astounded at how readily they started growing, not one shoot failed, no "crypt melt", and took off quickly.

CLEAN THEM WELL, that gel stuff is a mess.

They seemed expensive but broken into pieces they go a long way.

Planted end of august 2014:

Here's a shot from May

The crypts are on the right side in front of the rocks, and far right. The tank is 28" deep so these are about 10" tall and still growing. The "red" is the darker green to the left.

I also bought some of their dwarf hair grass and all of it died, but I'm told I just did not have adequate light for it. But their crypts -- little half-dead looking shoots in plastic wrap just perked up and took off.

mishe Bought some bacopa in that packaging, I have to trim my tank once a week or else it'll overtake everything.

ryubui My friend has purchased a packet of Alternanthera reineckii and it has been taking off in his 150 ever since...i get free 6-8" stems everytime i stop these plants are truly emersed grown and are proven to grow :P

Phil72 I have bought the bacopa and it was about 1.5 inches tall when I got it. Two weeks later, it has taken off in my tank(which is a 5 gallon low tech; just gravel, no co2, and a cfl) and some stems are 6 inches tall.

robxc80 Its actually a fair amount for the smaller varieties.

you get what would normally be 3 bunches of dwarf hairgrass for 7.99.

Stem plants on the other hand are very short stems. About 2.5-3 inches. The packaging is about 4 inches Lengthwise to give you an idea of the number of stems. For those who don't mind growing the plants out, it could be a decent enough option considering most LFS around here have a terrible plant selection.

That Pet Place is hit or miss with their plants. It almost makes sense take a chance and buy online.

Ya man! I don't remember the last time i paid for plants. Trades are so much more "profitable". I can send and recieve monster bunches of plants for the cost of shipping!!

Aheartlessfish also buying from another member reasures u that the plant is grown submersed/emersed depending on what u buy...but coming from petsmart, mostlikely their plants are all emersed. no bueno

jeremyTR Just bought some DHG from Petsmart today, not sure why some of you wouldn't buy it at Petsmart... It's only $8. Buying from here you're probably going to pay $7 alone for shipping. I think of that as another pack of DHG I could have bought.
06-28-2012 03:48 AM Are those the tissue culture plants that some Petsmarts are stocking?
(no snails = some extra value)

It will look great now that you are growing it emersed in the dsm setup, but after the flood, it will rot and die. Google peacock fern, you'll find all the info on it. I know my local p.s. now has stickers on the peacock fern that say "semi-aquatic".

Tony, you need dhg? I can hook ya up

Aheartlessfish I agree with ya davek they are more expensive. But convenience is key here. For those like me who like to stop by any fish store as long as its near by and check stuff out, im posting this mainly for those who just wanted to "check em out". I never stated it was a good deal :P!! Like i mentioned in the OP i would NEVER pay 8 dollars for these plants haha. But knowing petsmart they will go on sale and drop down to 5 bucks or even lower. THEN you'll be tempted to snag some if your in your local petsmart for 1 dollar fish :P

DaveK At $8 each, you'd be much better off makeing the long trek to something like That Fish Place, or buying from one of the online vendors for your plants.

Psesonally, unless it's a sale I've typically found the big chain stores to be more expensive and of lower quality than most of the LFSs, but that could just be the area I'm in.

Aheartlessfish oo cool i didnt know they had it for 8 months now...every petsmart is different and changes based on how new and how well the local petsmart does. For my petsmart, which is in a non rich neighborhood we usually get new things last. Although when i worked there we were number 1 in fish sales on the east coast ^^...that was until i left :P

You prob live in a nicer area and prob have a better petsmart is still uses the 20 gallon old ugly acrylic tanks while newer petsmart have nice brand new looking acrylic tank with seperators built in and some tanks that look like they're 40-50 gallons long. Need i say newer petsmart are alot cleaner? :P
