Chlorophile Probably some active camouflaging behavior, maybe he is trying to blend in with that piece of wood.

HypnoticAquatic if it comes an goes its not a fungus just him flashing his colors can/will do it when stress pissed off etc etc. its a nice looking leopard sailfin but will be a big boy if taken care of right, if you have other species of plecos make sure there getting along mine loved to battle with other sp. plecos until i had to seperate them due to them getting to agressive and doing damage. there eyes always remind me of the umbrella corperation logo off resident evel.

sampster5000 I've got a sailfin pleco like you do. Mine has always done this randomly. I wouldnt worry about it.

You picked quite a pleco for a planted tank! Mines well over a foot long in my 180 gallon. Love him though. Has never stopped eating algae.

Snowflake311 My BN Pleco will do this why stressed it is not a good sign.

Check the water right away. I would do a WC.

Are the spots cloudy, fuzzy, or slimy?

Sierra255 Many fish are able to change the way they look based on different factors - stress, mating behavior, excitement, etc. I think of it as people when they blush, only fish can generally do it across their whole body and for many more reasons. You'll also notice, in general, fish will be much lighter first thing in the morning just before and just after the lights come on. Perfectly natural.

Kathyy Many fish do the same thing. My plain brown bristlenose varies the most in my tank. It is normal.

evgeney96 another weird thing I forgot to mention.. These spots are perfectly symmetrical on both sides of his body

Wth is going on with my pleco? "pic"

Weirdest thing, He keeps getting these faded spots on his body which come and go.. I can only see them when he sits on the driftwood, however now 5 minutes after I took this picture they are no longer there?
At first I thought he was injured by the other fish"tiger barbs" but now I have no idea o.0
