ageekmom Newbie in San Antonio here. Currently in the process of setting up a 55 gallon planted aquarium (my first planted aquarium) after a long lull from the aquarium hobby. My last aquarium was a 10 gallon fish only aquarium I had in my teens.

Getting back in the swing of things

Hello Sam and the gang! After a lengthy hiatus, I am returning to the hobby. I've kept a Red-Eared Slider with a couple of juvenile Texas Cichlids for a few years, but am looking to get back into planted tanks, and I'm particularly interested in inverts, e.g. scrimps.

I've recently relocated from Austin to Selma, so I'll be checking out Darby's pretty soon. After I get some funds together, I'll be looking to get some scrimps and otos, and eventually upgrade my betta to a proper filtered tank.

chrislewistx Welcome Colaudrey,

The forum and the Facebook page are great resources. I imagine some of the LFS would have some part time gigs. Some people on the Facebook group might even know some contacts for that.

colaudrey i just joined the forum yesterday, as well as the FB group. I've recently got into the planted community, reading up as much as I can and learning every day I'm hoping also to get a job at my lfs, though idk how the hours would work while i'm still in school :0

andrewq WORST FISH STORE IN SAN ANTONIO. So this store ( PAPA JIMS TROPICAL FISH )is the probably the only fish store I haven't been to in San Antonio. As I walk in the door I see this older lady with a young child, and some dead goldfish. I understand most people dont know how much work it is to care for fish. The employee started asking questions about the customers water and setup. I dont think this lady knew what she was doing and how important water quality is. So it may of been partially her fault, but the employees customer service skills were horrible. Real quick to point the finger at her. The employee didnt even know what he was talking. I was being noisy and wanted to hear what he had to say. So with that in mind, I was skeptical about the store already. 5 MINS LATER. What a poor excuse for a fish store. They should turn it into a mortuary for fish. Almost every single tank had dead or dying fish. Keep in mind they probably have more than 50 tanks. I think I saw maybe a handful of tanks that head healthy fish. Those tanks only had one or two fish. Also they only offer a 24 hour guarantee on fish. I saw some corys, and thought I would rescue them from imminent death. My tank needed some corys too. I brought them home and placed in my quarantine tank, and they are doing much better. This stores prices are cheap, but for the risk involved I would pass. Never again will go to this store.

chrislewistx Nice looking fish. The stripped Angelfish really seem to be popular now.

andrewq I have a 29 gallon, and stand for sale. Also will probably have to sell or trade 3 angelfish, and 2 golden dojo loaches. Not sure on price, but the loaches are about 5-7inches. Angel fish are 3inches
