msjinkzd Yea, I think polyfilter is probably the best of those products.

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have hijacked your sales thread. We can continue this discussion elsewhere if need be.

I think you are referring to this:

"A: Prime works by removing chlorine from the water and then binds with ammonia until it can be consumed by your biological filtration (chloramine minus chlorine = ammonia). The bond is not reversible and ammonia is still available for your bacteria to consume. Prime will not halt your cycling process.
I am going to assume that you were using a liquid based reagent test kit (Nessler based, silica). Any type of reducing agent or ammonia binder (dechlorinators, etc) will give you a false positive. You can avoid this by using our Multitest Ammonia kit (not affected by reducing agents) or you can wait to test, Prime dissipates from your system within 24 hours."

I've always assumed that Prime would last longer in the relatively closed system of a shipping bag, but perhaps you are right, since breather bags do exchange gases. I also have used Purigen when shipping for the same purpose, but switched to Prime because of expense. I probably should just use Purigen. At any rate, there are products that eliminate the ammonia problem when shipping with breather bags.

msjinkzd Prime only is effective for 24 hours (from their website) so is not an effective solution for shipments taking longer than that (as most priority do). It is effective upon receipt to detoxify.

This is why "breather bag" shippers add a drop of Seachem Prime to the shipping water. This solves the problem of ammonia toxicity. I've had fish last a week in transit in their breather bags with no problems. In my opinion, the biggest drawback to breather bags is the expense.

If your water is quite hard, it is well buffered from pH swings and may not change that much, even if there is no gas exchange in your poly bags.
If there is a substantial pH change during shipment, as you suspect, then pH "bounce" is probably something to worry about during acclimation to the new tank.

somewhatshocked Can't wait to see how they turn out. While definitely not black, I think these are going to turn out to be cool shrimp that will sell well. Count me in when the time comes.

Brown neos could be just as cool as black. Maybe.
