|harsaphes||Just a quick chime in about pet food. My cats eat raw. Venison and or Rabbit. This can be bought frozen and we cut it up and thaw as needed(natures variety) The biggest problem with "dry" pet food esp. for cats is that it sets up a water imbalance in their system. It's like if you and I ate a bowl of dry cereal for the rest of our lives. There is also thought that dry food has a link to diabetes in cats. The biggest changes in having cats on a raw diet...the litter box does not smell at all. Also the amount of fecal matter is SOOOOO tiny compared to an animal that eats dry. Also they only drink water a couple times a week. I just wanted to post this to back up BARF and also get the word out.|

The Epic Experiment has come to an end. The Toxic Ten is empty as my Poop shovel.
Thanks to those that supported the effort and thanks to the "Chicken Littles" that cry the sky is falling, at the mention of Organics in substrate, that kept me motivated. While the Toxic Ten is gone, the substrate lives on in my new 56C Riparium.
There is some good info on the thread that I hope will help anyone interested in using Organic materiel in their substrate. I'll be happy to answer any questions here or via PM.

Possibly the last update pic. I'm using the tank as a grow-out/holding tank now. Currently a few Anubias Barteri v. Barteri.and A. Glabra. These are waiting here until they go into the 56 riparian. I hope to have it up & running over the next few weeks. Also, several hatches of Red/Gold Rams horn snails. I've noticed my Synodontis petricola catfish love snails. So, I'm gettting a colony going
I will be transferring this substrate into that tank, then I'll close the book on this experiment. The next update will be the final episode

Darn it! I had a 10# care package of high quality dog poop all ready to go your way.

I few weeks ago I pulled every thing out of the Toxic TEN & ROAKed the plants to a newbe from TX that had posted a WTB thread for a package of ow light plants.
I removed the play sand cap, then I worked in more Long Fiber Sphagnum peat. I then put down a PFS cap. I also introduced CO2. I have a single
C. Bullosa 'barrio' that I'm attempting to grow. I have a HOB & A power head at one side, I'm attempting to create a stream habitat.
MY MAC isn't talking to my camera so I'm not able to post pics now. This will be the final incanation of the Toxic Ten. I've keep shrimp, raised the babes, spawned Rams, now If I can get C. Bullosa 'barrio' to grown I think I've made a statement about organics in the Substrate.
I won't totally abandon the substrate, I hope tp have my 56C West African Riparium up before OCT. 1st. I'll be using the dirt fron the Toxic Ten in there.

|GimmeGills||Ever since I stumbled across this journal I have to tell you - this tank haunts me. Literally horrifies me to the point where I can't look away! But I will try dirt with my next tank because of you. Thanks for the nightmares.|
