oosurfin Well right now the tank is not in operation. It was torn down right after the first of the year. I moved twice in 6 weeks and as of now I may turn it into a succulent/cactus garden in my new place as I don't know how long ill be living there and moving around fish/plants is a pain in the butt.

oosurfin Thanks man. Honestly Id rather dump them and get something else in their place like some bosman's rainbows or something else that has a little size.

Doc7 Maybe last ditch effort to increase school of the colombian tetras? Might be less nippy to other fish that way. Tank looks awesome!!

oosurfin OK so I haven't updated this in a while so I figured now was the time. This is What is currently happening with the tank.

I am still waiting on my final set of Items from and don't really have any idea when I will get them. Last update was about a week ago saying the Items had entered the US and were currently being inspected by customs. As a result I have started to use my nano diffuser to get some CO2 into the tank and MAN IS IT UGLY! I really want my inline atomizer so I can get that baby crankin!

I have mixed my first batch of fertz as well and have decieded on using PPS-PRO and referencing MCI to fine tune my fertilizer mix. Here is what I have done with the mix. Using a calibrated 100x0.01g scale my mix consists of

29g - k2so4
30g - kno3
20g - mgso4
6g - kh2po4

Micro - DIY tropica using millers
5g - miller
1.5g 11% dtpa fe

so far tests show 15-20ppm nitrates and .2ppm po4 so I will need to bring that up some as its not in the 10:1 ratio as well as work out my co2 levels.

I have added a bunch of fish as well current stocking list is as follows.

6 x lemon tetra
6 x cardinal tetra
6 x amano shrimp
5 x harlequin rasboras
4 x colombian tetras - these guys might have to go because they seem to be pretty aggressive and that is new for them.
4 x oto's
1 x juv. bushy nose
1 x dwarf gold spot-possibly a bushy nose but I don't think so.

I have MTS in there as well as what seems to be a ton of hitch hiking red rams horns.

So far all the fish are eating well except for one cardinal but they haven't been in the tank for even 24 hours yet. Otos are looking reasonably plump and there is a nice coating a diatoms and GDA right now for them to fatten up on.

The fish are still reasonably timid and hanging out mostly around the drift wood, which is still finishing up curing even after a month soaking with carbon and fairly regular water changes. It has everyone's favorite thing on new drift wood, that nasty snot. I figured I would get some because this is the woods first time in a tank but man its been like 3 weeks and its still going strong. The plecos are starting to nibble at it a little so that is good. The one thing I am really not liking right now is the aggressiveness of the colombian tetras and will need to watch and see how that develops because they may end up back at the petstore.

That is pretty much everything since my last update. Once things start to settle in a little more and I get my final pieces I will post some pictures of the tank inside and out.

oosurfin I had tested last night and ammonia was down to zero and nitrates had dropped a little as well so I can only guess since I haven't had a huge spike that the Nitrite bacteria is still growing. I added 1ml of ammonia at around 4am and that brought me up to ~1mg/l and It has been completely used up in about 12 hours so that is a really good sign.

oosurfin I haven't added any more ammonia to the tank since Tuesday and I am sitting right around 1.5mg/l vs the 4ish mg/l I was about 72 hours ago. I am sure all the plants in the tank are helping bring it down. I don't have a nitrite test kit so I am just watching my nitrates and last night they were sitting at about 5-10ppm and now they are moving up to the 15-20ppm mark. I'll be able to move the fish and shrimp over soon, I can't wait!

oosurfin All the rock aside from the smooth stones are petrified wood. I am still debating on how I want to line the path with plants to make it look a little more natural with plants hanging over the sand a little. I think I may move the anubias over between some of the smooth stones. I might move 1 stem of bylaxa on the right of the cave and someone on another forum suggested that I remove some of the opening of the sand path up front so it looks something more this the pic below. I think it might be a good idea.

oosurfin Bacteria colonies are starting to take hold in the tank Because the ammonia levels are starting to drop. So far it looks to be close to a drop of 1mg/l of ammonia per day and nitrates are starting to rise as well. The water is also starting to clear up as well which is nice, Because you could actually see the current moving around the bacteria that were growing. It was kinda like a fog machine in the tank so I knew it was a strong bacterial boom. I am guessing I should have fish in the tank in the next 10 days or so. Here are the most current pics of my tank with my pick ups from the swap n shop section.
