shinycard255 Somewhat of an update

I changed my CO2/light schedule again. I now have to CO2 starting 1.5 hours instead of 1 hour before lights go on.

Also, I'm battling BBA, and it's a pain. I can't seem to get rid of it. I raised my lights an extra 0.5" so now they are 6.5" above the tank. I was also reading Diana Walstad's Ecology of the Planted Aquarium tonight wondering what her thoughts on BBA were and her comment was that good plant growth will control any algae. She said to focus on increasing total plant growth. She also mentioned adding duckweed, which I'm assuming will help decrease light intensity over the tank as well as help eat up excess nutrients in the water.

What I've noticed is ever since I got rid of my Salvinia in my tank a few months ago, BBA started to get a grasp on things. So I threw a few plantlets of Salvinia in my tank tonight and I'm hoping that once it starts to grow, it should help contain the algae

shinycard255 Little update... not much...

So after a month of starting the CO2 and hour before the lights turn on didn't really do much at all. So earlier in the week I changed the schedule again, to where the CO2 still starts an hour before lights go on, but I changed the light schedule to 4 on, 2 off, 4 on. I'm hoping that this will help keep the CO2 at a more consistent level

shinycard255 So I've been thinking about changing my CO2/light schedule...

Right now I have it so that they both come on at the same time. What I've noticed is that now I have BBA in the tank and I think it's due to them both being on the same schedule. So what I am trying, as of tonight, is putting them both on their own individual schedules. The CO2 will kick on an hour prior to the lights turning on, but then also turning off an hour before lights turn off. What I'm thinking will happen is that extra hour of "buffer time" with the CO2 should create a more stable CO2 saturation in the tank for when the lights are on, which I'm hoping will help cure my BBA, but only time will tell

Any other input on this by chance? I've been spot treating with Excel, but the stuff just keeps coming back.

Plus I'm also starting to noticed GSA on some plants and on the glass...

shinycard255 So it's been WAAAAAAAY too long since I've updated this journal. Work got a little crazy for a while, Diablo 3 came out, on top of the usual everyday stuff.

So I pulled all of the duckweed/salvinia out of this tank because it was starting to drive me insane. I couldn't take it anymore. Too much surface space for that stuff to grow like mad.

I also pulled out all of the Dwarf Sag (not really dwarf anymore since some leaves were 16"+) which really cleared out the front of my tank.

The Stargrass in the back is really doing well and I also added some Ludwigia sp. 'Red' which adds some color to my tank.

I would say my tank is at it's prime right now
