Well, it looks like I'm going through a pretty significant melt down....
I've lost a BUNCH of plants, but I do have quite a few making some nice gains amongst the havoc and destruction! It looks like my blyxa is starting to make a comeback, and most of my stems are doing well. Being the optimist that I am, atleast I'm making an excellent stab at growing some first rate algae!
I knowingly set my photoperiod to 12 hours....dumb! I re-scheduled my timer to allow for a ten hour photoperiod. I'm sure that I'll need to lower it to 8 hours or so, but I was just going to observe my tank's reaction to a two hour loss of light to see how things go.
I'm getting good flow and descent surface agitation, but I still seem to have a few dead spots and the typical oil film stuff in the surface if the water. I'm hoping that the dead spots that I have aren't going to become an issue in the future. Also, I'm hoping that the duckweed and/or frogsbit will soon cover the surface and reduce the aesthetic impact of the surface film issue.
Sometimes I get too impatient with my own tank. One tends to browse the threads on TPT and see the tank progression in minutes. It's very difficult for me to keep the perspective of time in mind while browsing other members' tanks. I just want the "All American" theme..... Instant satisfaction.
Perhaps my hobby is going to help me develop the patience that I'll need to raise this little girl! Ha ha! My wife may have a very antagonistic viewpoint to this issue!
She's coming 4/14/2011 at 12 o'clock noon via c-section. My wife and I are getting prepared, but how can anybody really prepare for a first child?!? We have strong faith, and we're confident that strength and wisdom will be found and we'll be great parents! I cannot explain my emotions right now, but I can say that this is the single most important time in my life!!!
Good night everybody!
Help! What kind of algae is this, what is the typical cause, and how do I treat it?
