Top Shelf Aquatics is the best store here for beautiful fish. He's selective on what he sells, and is primarily African cichlids, but does carry corys, apistos, etc.

Montfort Aquarium and Pets is another good one. They sell marine, fresh water, and lots of plants.

If you've ever heard of ShrimpUSA.com, they are also local here. He sells many types of shrimp. He also carries and sells over 10,000 types of aquatic plants (though its not advertised on the website, only the Facebook page).

I haven't seen any LFS around here with a lot of tank friendly rock, at least not aquascaping rocks like ohko or seiryu, just your common river rock, texas holey rock, and slate. There's a landscaping place down the street from me that will let you fill a 5 gallon bucket with river rock for $5. I'm still looking for local places for aquascaping tools and supplies, as it's breaking me having to pay shipping lol.

BettaBabe That's awesome! I miss fishey business.

Tazalanche Pet Central opened last year around the same time that Fishey Business announced they were closing after 30+ years in Bowling Green.

It's a small, 2 person, operation that deals with freshwater fish, saltwater fish, reptiles, small mammals & birds. They're still growing so they're going through that stage of trying to juggle taking care of their customers, getting new tanks/cages set up, keeping tanks/cages clean, updating their website (petcentralky.com is used for info, not an online storefront), updating facebook, increasing their stock of supplies, food and equipment, etc.. There might be diatoms in some of the newest freshwater tanks or some red algae in some of the newest saltwater tanks, but that's to be expected with a new setup.

The owner & the manager truly care about the quality of what they bring in since the only other options in the area are the big box stores. They appreciate it when they have an opportunity to get locally bred pets, over the much lower quality that comes from the distributors. There are times when they don't need any pets from us & we'll still drive 45 minutes each way to their store to "just say hi", with a detour to Smokey Bones before heading home, of course. Great guys.

BettaBabe Pet Central? Why have I never heard of this?

Tazalanche While we're technically not in Kentucky (we live across the line, south of Scottsville, KY, in Lafayette, TN), we are in Bowling Green multiple times per month, delivering fish to Pet Central. We would love to meet up with some others in the hobby.
