ninoboy I had an oscar when I was in college. He jumped out once and did the exact same thing you described for more than a week. He turned out fine after that. I think it's just the stress or shock.

hclemson Last week i was changing the water in my tank when one of my cichlids made a leap for freedom! Never had i seen i fish jump so high! Anyway, it landed 'splat' on the carpet, about 3 foot below. i rushed him straight back into the tank, and he seemed shocked, but alright. However, since then he keeps playing dead. Lying on the bottom of the tank, flat on his side. He's swimming fine, but when he stops he sinks to the bottom of the tank, and just sits there.

Has this happened to anyone else? I thought maybe the 'sinking' effect when he's not swimming is some kind of swim bladder problem, but im not sure. Any ideas?

BTW, im not entirly sure what cichlid he is, possibly a male Archocentrus spilurus! Does anyone have any of these kinds of fish?
