|flukekiller||added some s. repens and a.reineckii 'mini'|
|09-25-2013 03:18 AM|
well i failed at dry start. so i decided to flood.
i still have some tweaking to do.
i need to add a little more sand and the water fall
effect will seem more full. i also might add some pieces
of rock to the back to make it look more of a "flow" like.
other than that i think it is pretty close to done. now i just
have to wait for the really fine pieces of sand to get pumped
out so they wont be just floating in the water. by the end of
the week my a.reikii mini and s. repens should be here. and
hopefully next week i will order my HC.
let me know your thoughts/ideas/suggestions
also can someone tell my how to post the video here straight
from you tube? i cant seem to find it anywhere

|flukekiller||the HC i have in my 20 long is thriving(submerged) i use the same water, the same substrate, O+ root tabs the only difference is dry start|

|Hilde||Since your HC is not doing well I would not add water. It will shock it. Is your substrate is only blasting sand? HC loves calcium sulphate. Perhaps you water is low in calcium. Thus spraying it with a Calcium sulfate etc. (Select Aquatics) solution would help.|

|flukekiller||So I am probably going to flood the tank in a day or two. My HC is dying and I do not know why.|
|09-11-2013 12:16 AM|
|flukekiller||since i didnt cover it until about 2pm est. do i wait until tomorrow to open it for gas exchange?|

The waiting period is always the worse part :\ make sure you air out the tank atleast 1-2 hours a day, or else you will develop mold... thats what happened under my driftwood, and I think it developed fruit flies o_O it gave me a reason to fill it early though
and cool looking tank btw

Dry start day 1. HC.
More plants in a week or so.
as long as i dont have puddles i will be good on moisture in the sand right?

Just about to get ready with dry start!

|BriDroid||Very cool! Looking forward to the build!|
|09-01-2013 03:10 PM|
|flukekiller||so far this build has only cost me $10. i had an old tank that was no good so i just cut it down to size myself. best chance is trying to get a 55 that is cracked off of craigslist. be careful though b/c once tanks start hitting 55gal and up they use tempered glass for the bottom panel|

|andrewq||If you dont mind me asking. What did it cost you for the glass. I was considering doing a diy fish tank just for fun. I was thinking about 20 gal long, but longer. So probably 30 gallon long. Not sure on dimensions yet.|
|09-01-2013 03:02 PM|
|flukekiller||well im giving it a week mainly b/c i used it to seal a piece of wood so i want to make sure it is fully cured. also i have to wait until thursday until i can get some sand.|
