PrincessPea Ok, thanks. It is really weird, I was sure those other rasbora would go down too, the WCM is the eternal fish, he is super old and has moved house three times so far.
I will wait a few months then,!proceed with regular maintenance only and see what happens.

mnemenoi Hmmm, thats quite a strange set of occurences. It could very well have been ich, though there are a small set of alternate diseases it could also be. The fact it has not affected your WCM & CPD is a stranger part of the dilemma. If it were my tank, I would let sleeping dogs lie and wait out a good couple of months and watch the tank carefully for any signs of a reoccurance. Ich can not live for very extended periods without a host, so they should eventually die off and the tank should once again be 'clear'. Trying to treat might comprimise and threaten your shrimp population as high temps and Ich treatment are not what I'd call 'shrimp safe'. After a month or two you should be fine.

treating a tank that had mysterious sick fish

I have a low-tech tank that was doing well until I added some fish from my trusted LFS- yes, I quarantined them, but apparently not long enough.

Anyhow, I added a school of six microrasboras, and within one week of adding them, they died, and took all my ember tetras with them. it was apparently ich, as my housesitter said they all looked like they had salt on their fins. However, I was out of town and she had directions to feed and do lights only, as she isn't a fish person. There are galaxy rasboras, white cloud minnows and cherry shrimp left in the tank, all apparently healthy.

My question is this: since I didnt have photos of sick fish, and I dont have their tiny bodies, I dont really know what happened in there. I am wondering if and how to treat the tank, and is there a way to determine if the parasite or fungus is still present in the system without putting new fish in there to test?

Thanks, P.P.
