I know this is a somewhat old thread, but I am just looking at starting my own tank and this is a great start that I would love to see for my own. Can you post an update and maybe some new pics?
What kind of sand/rock is that at the bottom? Do you think dwarf hairgrass would work in combination with this type of setup?

I have more plants, and am finishing up hopefully my Pressurized CO2 set up this weekend! Photos to come!

Btw if you want fast growth of the wisteria, in my experience you can cut them about 3/4 the way up the stem and plant the part you cut. This will send out lateral runners from the original stalk that cover a lot of area in a month. With that stuff you can even plant a leaf that has been broken off and it will grow. The salvinia minuta on top should just grow like crazy anyway. The ludwigia you can do the same as the wisteria one it reaches a large size but sometimes it sends out buds anyway. When I got my java moss in December, it was about half the size it is now so you could expect the same growth rate.
Anyway, where did you get your fish? I would love to get some of my own.

All the way to the left is water wisteria. I think what's next to it is some kind of rotala but I cannot verify that as I never positively identified it in my tank. I can't see the others well enough to tell you where they are but the one with leaves that are green on top and red on the bottom are some species of ludwigia. I think that is pretty much it. If you or anyone else needs some I will gladly sent some for $7 to cover shipping. My tank is way too overgrown. Hope you enjoy your plants!

Here is a quick update. Dubsmacks was kind enough and hooked me up with a few starter plants and HighDesert has some more in the mail for me! I picked up what I hope are a pair of Bolivian Rams from a LFS, they had great color at the store, and I'm hoping I that they have that bright red come back here soon! Can anyone confirm If I have a male & female? I tried identify anatomical differences and picked two that didn't appear to be the same.
All the danios are still zipping about.
Dub, if you could give me a run down of what I planted left to right? I know I put the Java Moss on the log, and the far right is Java fern & Amazon sword.
And now for pictures!
I think this is the male..
And the full tank shot.

Thanks Dub! I should hopefully have some new pictures up this afternoon. All six Danios are still kicking and zipping around with round bellies. I think they like all the space.
Thanks Yukonon, Its really my first attempt at hardscaping, I'm hoping the plants fill it out nicely.
I did notice a sprout coming off my Amazon Sword. Yay!

|DubSmacks||Btw great tank!|

|DubSmacks||The amount of salvinia(the floaters) that I sent you should suck up a lot of nitrates. They also thrive under that light. I have the same one and I didn't tend to it and after 2 months it had covered the top of my tank. You taking it gave me some more space to work with. Again let me know if you want more please, I still have a lot. I can give you more of the actual plants to help with aesthetics if you want.|

I'm running the lights 8 hours a day? Think it's no much? I've never had really any problem with algae before. I got a black background up, replaced the goldfish with some Zebra Danios. These guys are fun to watch, its like follow the leader in and around the rocks.
I have no idea what they were attacking, but it was a frenzy.
Follow the leader round the rock. (They were doing circles.)
I finally had one stay still long enough to get a shot of his colors and was photo bombed. These guys have really striking colors.

|Sea_Of_Treachery||im digging the scape dude! not sure id be running the lights that long without any plants. i would try to plant fairly heavily from the start to avoid any algae issues.|

Well, I've been busy, I've evicted the goldfish, did a 100% water change, and I planted an Amazon Sword, or at least I believe so that I got from a LFS. My NO2 spike is about over. I've been mulling it over and over in my head if non-CO2 will get me what I am going for, and I'm starting to think that CO2 may be my next step. I've read the majority of the DIY regulator builds, and I know many people on here build reliable regulators and sell them so I may go that route.
I've also been switching up what I want in this tank, at first it was live bearers and Inverts, now I may have gotten attached to a bush fish at the LFS. I've been looking for tank makes and am considering Rainbows, larger tetras, plecos. I think my wife gave me the go ahead on a 20l for the live bearers and inverts, or at least that's how I interpreted her.
Also, if anyone is doing any major trimming and would like to get rid of any plants, and is feeling generous I would gladly pay shipping to get a sampler. Main things I'm looking for are Frogbit, Java Fern, Pygmy chain, but I'd gladly try anything, someday down the road I'd like to help someone else like me.
Alright, here are some pictures, I've gotten really attached to the log in the center, its so weathered from being in the river it has great character, I know lots of people like to use branches and what not but this piece just looks so neat. (I do have a branched driftwood soaking right now.)

Well. In a rather quick thought of regret I realized the LFS suggestion to use Goldfish to cycle my tank was a rather poor choice, though I was against it they stated it was my best option since they were dirty. They are dirty alright but the wrong kind of dirty. So I'm going to return them this weekend and hopefully get a more appropriate fish to cycle my tank.
Would anyone have any suggestions, I've always had good success with guppies & tetras.
As far as plants I'm hoping to order some Frogbit, Java Fern, pygmy chain (though I'm worried at how well it would hold in my substrate with corys)
I really love the way this tank
Has progressed, and I really enjoy the fauna/flora of it. I'd like to get some schooling fish that is readily easy to breed.
I'll have some more pictures up this weekend.
