elwray The metal brushes are typically brass, soft enough to not scratch the harder steel of the barrel/rifling - but I wouldn't want to send that through anything plastic, even with a cloth over it.

Thinking along these same lines though, we used to use what was essentially a handkerchief tied to a string to clean woodwind instruments ... that would probably be safer (and cheaper).

I fill my utility sink with a water/bleach solution then put whatever I want cleaned in the sink along with a small pump to agitate the solution. For tubes, I just put one end on the pump and the other end in the sink and let the solution circulate through the tubes. Works great.

To rinse let the solution out, refill with water and a little Prime and repeat.

A couple hours and all is complete.

Ok. Before I forget I came up with a good idea to clean the tubes.

Going to walmart or place that sells gun cleaning kits. The one that would mostly apply to us would be the 12 gauge kit but for a variety it's best to get full kit for different tubes etc...

This link is just an example. Also, if you've never used one the cleaning rod made to go down the barrel is usually made from brass and is pretty stiff. But the great thing is you can shorten or lengthen them to fit your application! The metal brush I would think would be safe for ribbed tubing because its made for a rifle barrel and its used to avoid damage to the rifling. For soft straight tube the cloth would work too. A patch can be placed around the brass bristled too to avoi damage.

This is what I'm gonna use from now on.
