|nokturnalkid||Giesemann makes some good bulbs, usually the aquaflora and midday are used. The aquaflora is a pinkish bulb while the midday was a white bulb. Great for growing plants and looks pretty nice also. But, when it comes down to it, its a matter of preference. Bulbs anywhere from 5000k-10000k will grow plants just fine. If you do get a 6700k to go with the 100000k, then just place them in both slots and see which combo you like better. When I had the aquaflora and midday combo, I liked having the aquaflora in the front. Others liked it in the back.|

Any ideas as to which brands or colors? Also additional info is they are 39W bulbs. Aquarium demensions are 36Wx12Dx16H. I plan to have a substrate depth of 2.25in and the fixture will be approx. 2.5in from the water and approx. 14in from the substrate.
Should I place the 10,000k daylight in the back and the 6,700k up front?
Thanks for the feed back guys keep it coming. Trying to make an informed purchase instead of trial and error; which gets expensive.

I would replace the actinic bulb as those bulbs are used for saltwater tanks.
For example you keep the 10000k bulb and replace the actinic one with a bulb with something close 6700K.

|ngrubich||Typically what you'll see most often is lamps that are in the range of 6,700K. I had a mix of 6,700K and 10,000K on my old planted tank and it grew plants really well.|

I'm new here and just need a question answered unsure if it's been previously answered in other threads.
I have a 30gal aquarium I purchased from a friend who ran a saltwater tank. He threw in the coral life T5ho fixture with a 10,000k day light bulb and a blue actinic bulb.
So my question is which bulbs will best suit me and who has had the best results from the different types and brands? The fixture will be approximately 16" from the substrate with a variety of plants ranging from anacharis to micro swords.
