Sotty I do not have any experience with LED lighting. I wouldn't buy one that people here haven't tried. A lot of the LEDs out there are pretty crappy for plants, so definitely do your homework if you are thinking of going down that route.

Here's a good place to start if you want to head down the LED route.

This is in the lighting FAQs for future reference.

jspk Thanks for the reply.
I just got rid of my glass hood. It's so inconvienient.
Do you know anything about LED fixtures? this one in particular vs regular t5 lighting

Sotty If I'm doing heavy duty up to my armpits maintenance on my 55 I just take my fixture off and use a clip on work light with only 13 inches of breadth there just isn't a lot of room to be working around a fixture if I'm replanting or rearranging.

I ditched my glass hoods. I used to have them always seemed to be in the way. I always took them off for maintenance as well. Stepped on one of them once as they are hard to see when laid flat on carpet... They went in the trash after that near miss in bare feet.

Only time I miss them is in the winter when they really cut down on heat loss and evaporation.

TLDR: Get used to giving yourself the room to do the maintenance when it is time to do the big stuff it makes it way easier and more time efficient.

55 Gallon Light Fixture

Hey forum,

I bought my 55 gal from petco's 1$/gal deal last month. I've been using this fixture:
The fixture works great, but it does not fit exactly well on my tank. The fixture just slides around and is a hassle when I'm doing maintenance. I am also using a glass canopy.
I think the dimensions are 48x13x18.
