Keep this plant trimmed down or it will take over quickly. Grows easily and would be a good plant for a beginner.

This is the first plant i put in my 10 gallon. 1.5watts per gallon, no co2, plain gravel, no ferts.... and it still grew about 2 inches in a week and sprouted a few new shoots... Definately could get out of control if you don't trim, but it's great if you want something that will fill in quickly.

I think it notable here that this plant can usually be found VERY cheap at most fish stores, as they sell it as fodder for goldfish and often have several bunches of it in their own gold fish tanks for the livestock to much on, which prevents them from having to spend money on fish food. If buying what they consider "real plants" at the same time, if you spot a "scrap" of it in the plant sales tank and ask, they will often toss it in with your purchase at no extra charge.

In case your interested, this plant will also survive in a pond over winter. Ive had it survive-28c temperatures, and come back stronger than ever in the spring.

Excel melts it without a doubt.

Another of my favourite stem plants. So easy to grow & take cuttings from. It's roots grow amazingly fast & that makes it very simple to make cuttings from. The fish don't seem to eat it at all & I have it in all my tanks.

This stuff grows fast! I had a couple cuttings about 5 inches long, and 3 weeks later I twice as many cuttings and they were a foot long. Excel will melt it, but API leaf zone is ok for it.
