Crypts are fairly popular aquarium plants due to their ease. They can grow fairly large, mine are now poking out of the top of my 55 gallon. They are heavy root feeders and thus normally require some sort of substrate addition.

Brown crypt adds nice color contrast and it will spread by underground runners. Plants will also grow larger as they mature.

I also have these in a coldwater tank that sometimes gets down to 65F. They are growing well, but seem to stay lower to the substrate, with almost no stems. Leaves seem to rise directly from the substrate, though they are full sized leaves.
