Planted Tank Guru

Great fish for beginners I now have a well planted tank for the fry to hide and they breed like rabbits. Good assortment of colours as well. Easy to manage although I have found it is best to have less male than female to stop the aggression. I have 2 male and 6 female in with tetra guppy neons and 1 ruby shark who likes his own space. Best thing is my local fish shop is happy to take my surplus swordtails in exchange for other fish.

A great fish for beginner breeders as they are quite rampant in my experience. They are happy fish and enjoy other fish as company, as well as bubbles which they like to play in.

It is a good fish for beginner. They are very quite in the tank. They are gentle to other fish.

Swordtails are beautiful, hardy fish. Like all livebearers, they can overpopulate a tank if not kept in check, but they are not as prolific as guppies. Dominant males are easily identified by their long "swords" at the base of their tail fins. These fish are best kept in trios of one male to at least 2 females. Males can become aggressive with each other, competing for mates, and I personally would not keep more than one male in less than a moderately planted 55 gallon tank.
