This fish grows to a size of 13cm and needs a tank atleast 80cm long. They have to live in a temperature of 22 - 24'C (72 - 75'F). A PH of 7 and a hardness of 18 - 25dGH is perfect for these fish. Breeding is also easy; you should up the temperature to 26'C, place java moss on the bottom of the tank and wait. The eggs will require 7 - 8 days to hatch and are free swimming the moment they are born. They are slow growing and seek food straight away. They do not turn that darker shade of red till they are two inches in lengh. Some suggest to feed the fry (baby fish) pulverized egg yolk and rotifers. (I'm sure they will eat baby brine srimp and powered flake food however).
Rainbowfish are the my favorite freshwater fish. I have a couple red's in one of my aquariums. One is a goldish hue and the other is a vibrant red. I've seen pale orange, brown, and even silver individuals aswell. Females are duller. They appreciate green in their diet. Kelp, spirilina.
