This is a great fish. Does interact with other inhabitants. From my observations appears to swim with similar coloured fish, like Pearl Gourami's (Because of the black stripe on the Pearls). Do constantly nibble for algae, and also can be fed with flake. I have individuals in my aquarium, and don't seem stressed about the lack of friends. I would, however, prefer them to have friends but their size does limit how many you can get. Apparently are known to be peaceful to other individuals of the same species, however I haven't put two in the same aquarium yet so can't really comment on that. I would recommend this fish only if the aquarium is over 30 gallons, and is planted (as the fish likes to rest on large leaves).

This is a very nice fish to have if you have an algae problem. I had some strings starting to come off one of my castle and once i put this fish in it was gone in less than a week. gets more aggressive as it gets older.

SAEs are commonly confused with Flying Foxes who do get aggressive as they age. True SAEs are peaceful and do not become aggressive.

Jenny

I have four adult SAEs in a well planted tank. They did not become aggressive as they matured, either to each other or to other fish. Because of their size, they are now the main feature fish in the tank.

Kathy

This fish can get aggresive when they reach adulthood. They are good algae eaters in a planted aquarium.

These interesting and characterful fish are actually not cat fish but are actually cyprinids (carp-like fish).

I have one in my ten gallon right now until he gets big enough for the 55... very fun to watch. Always active. I have noticed a little bit of agressive behavior, but only chases fish away, never nips them. I think some of this could be due to the limited space in the ten.

I have two groups of 4 and 5 in two 75usg tanks. They are active and interesting. They do a fine job of algae control and seem to enjoy being in a group as they are usually together. They also like current and often sit at the outflows of my filters and powerheads...Nice fish
