Algae Grower

Very peaceful fish that likes to explore the whole tank.
Recommended tank size no smaller then 20 gallons.
Likes caves and plants.
Color pattern will change often.
Will lay eggs in caves and will be guarded by the males until they hatch, then he will eat them..
Males are bigger than the females with a more rounded shaped head, also more colorful and darker when with the females.
Will only eat Bloodworm's, frozen or freeze dried.
pH of water around 6.5 - 7.5
Very cute fish that loves attention from its owners

Very attractive species with lots of personality
I've kept groups of 1m + 5f in 10g heavily planted tanks, and much larger groups (about 45) in a planted 90g with a minimum of 5g per male for territory. The females aren't as territorial so 1 per 2g.
Their homes should have individual caves and hidey-holes for each fish. A cave for each male is a must, or they will continually fight for the available places.
Breeding is easy, put a trio in a 5g. The male will display himself and then bully the females into his cave. The eggs are scattered inside the cave and he'll protect them viciously until they hatch. Best to remove the females once he begins chasing them away from the cave. And remove hime once the fry are free swimming. Fry are very tiny, and take several months to reach fully maturity.

I've kept the fry with the male with no casualties. He guards them even when they reached 1/3 his size.

Very easy to breed as long as you have a heavy planted tank and met all the required care.
