Algae Grower

The Sixray corydora, also known as False Corydora, is not a true corydora. They can often be mistaken with the Pygmy Corydora, as I was, since they have a very similar appearance. The small more elongated body, but with a black marking on its dorsal fin which indicates its health and mood. Females are generally larger and plumper, while males are smaller and thinner. The Sixray Corydora is native to the warm tropical waters of Brazil, therefore they prefer slightly acidic water that isn't too hard. They appreciate a reasonably strong current and fine smooth substrate, since sharp substrate can damage their barbels which don't grow back. They seem to prefer tanks that are densely planted and well filtered/oxygenated. The Sixray Corydora is a peaceful schooling fish and due to its small size, it cannot be placed in an aquarium with larger more aggressive fish. They are not picky eaters, they will accept a variety of small foods and especially sinking algae wafers. For them to be bred, and a water change with cooler temperature must be done to stimulate the rain season that is also breeding season. The tank must be densely planted, and they will lay their eggs on dense plants. But unfortunately they do not look after their eggs.
