Fresh Fish Freak

Small schooling South American tetra, usually wild caught in the Amazonian Paraná River basin. Slender body is silver with brilliant red on fins. Very similar in shape, behavior and husbandry to the Rummynose tetra, Hemigramus bleheri. May be confused with the larger Aphyocharax alburnus.
A peaceful community fish, A. anisitsi mixes well with other tetras or non-aggressive fish. Keep in groups of 5 or more, 10 gallon minimum recommended tank size. These fish will keep to the upper and mid portions of the water column. Conditioning food should be worms, small insects and crustaceans, but they are not picky eaters and are typically well-adapted to commercially prepared foods at the time of purchase.
As with most small tetras, A. anisitsi are very susceptible to ich, fungus, and parasites. Drip-acclimation and a 2-week minimum quarantine are highly recommended. Do not purchase this fish if other fish in the store are displaying signs of fungus or ich.

A beautiful fish that I recently came across dyed to look like a cardinal tetra, a great shame for such a pretty fish.

In my experience, these fish are quite hardy, can stand up to higher pH's, but don't seem to like intense light (Mine being just 65W of 6700K/10000K Compact Fluorescent).
