An extremely beautiful foreground - midground plant, the bright green color adds intensity to the tank. It needs high lighting and can be difficult to grow, but once successful you won't be disappointed. Kyle A great foreground plant for high-light tanks. Common name of "pearlweed" is apt as once it is established it expands everywhere. Shrimp seem to love hiding in it and keep the dense rowth clean. George Willms Though some say it's a high light plant, I have it in a 50 with 2.5 wpg and can easily keep it as a dense foreground mat. Easy to maintain via 'haircuts', and, as mentioned, shrimp do love it. Bert H

The correct name for this species is Hemianthus glomeratus, a related species from Florida. Actual H. micranthemoides has not been seen for decades and may actually be extinct.

So what is considered High Light on a 125. I will be running 380 watts of VHO 10,000K bulbs enough for it? Jeff

Pearlweed, known in the aquarium hobby as Hemius micranthemoides, but more properly called Micranthemum micranthemoides, is also known by the common name "Nuttall's mudflower". It can be found in certain areas of the New England states New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Judging from its distribution, it may possibly also be found in Massachusetts and Connecticut. A related species, Micranthemum glomeratum, with the common name "manatee mudflower", has a reported range that is confined to most of central Florida, extending to parts of south Florida and northern Florida.
