I have these and other Killfish in a large community tank with limited success, they cost a little more than other fish and I could only seem to keep them alive for 6 months to a year. They are beautiful fish with great color and mostly peaceful loners and worth a try in my opinion.
Fish from this group should live 3 to 5 years. I have Aphyosemion (Chromaphyosemion) bivittatum Funge that are over three years old and are in the peak of spawning condition. Very prolific. An aquarium with java moss, Anubias sp, Cryptocoryne sp. and Java Fern suits this species very well. To give the fish more cover you can add floating and sinking spawning mops made from acrylic yarn. It is also a good idea to keep this species in temps topping out at about 76 deg F. If you want to keep this species under higher light, I would add some dwarf water lillies and an area of dense floating plants. Bright light tends to make the species shy, lack of cover altogether would likely stress the fish to the detriment of all but the alpha male and result in the loss of fish from fighting and stress related diseases.
