If you opt for one of these guys make sure you get one that has not been dyed. These are great fish. Some people are offended that they are a hybrid made by man, but I love them. They have amazing personalities and can truly love their owners. They don't like to be kept with more aggressive fish. As long as they know they are the unopposed king of the tank, they are happy to peacefully patrol the tank. They can be kept with smaller schooling fish as well. They shift from one color pattern to the next, eventually ending up a beautiful orange color.
I have 2 blood parrots in my heavely planted 40b. I was scared when I got them that they would tear up the plants. My parrots don't mess with them unless I walk by and scare them. That's when they bolt to their hiding space and sometimes up root a freshly planted stem. Thats the only problem I have out of them.
Mr Parrot fish is lovely. When I bought him he was sold as a Green Parrot fish. His colour has nearly totally changed to orange now though. Very easily frightened if sudden movements are made. Pretty aggressive towards the plecs in with him. I feed him twice a day 20 catfish pellets.
