yea i dont know why its not done more often...maybe because the cichlids will dig up the plants...at least thats the reason im told all the time...lol...then i tell them only if you dont do it right
OMG that would look awesome...maybe use root tabs for the vals so that you dont have to use a fertilizing gravel...and no co2 cause it melts the vals for some reason
well I tried CO2 previously and I find it kind of a pain in the but. So I go for simple with Flourish Excel. I have tried Vals, but that was before I kept my better light on full time and got a pleco for the algae the snails don't eat. I will probably attempt them again, they did look nice. And they probably would look much better if I had the light with 1.5 wpg up versus the .70 watts over them. Thanks C2C! I think that planting cichlid tanks is where its at. I don't understand why you can't have rockpiles and plants! The fish love it, and nobody eats the plants...so I guess we are all happy. My next project is a 125g Malawi Predator Tank, I still haven't decided if I should plant it yet. Though I thought white sand with some valls and maybe some mosses would look stellar.
