I would never have even considered trying this until mistergreen posted on his DIY PAR meter. That got me to thinking about it. Then I discovered how cheap lux meters were, and that triggered my drive to convert them to PAR meters.

That's understandable. Hey, anything to get more people cheap PAR meters.
I would wager you never thought a little research on PAR would have led to all this, though, huh?

One more thing, I can't afford to buy large quantities of parts, so I can only make about 5 at a time, using the money I get from selling the last batch. I will be raising my price a little to make this part go more smoothly.

I am now waiting for a batch of 6 luxmeters to modify - they should arrive tomorrow. After that I will be working on selecting an optimum set of filters to adjust the output as read on the meter so it is reading PAR. Then in 2-3 days I should have at least 5 PAR meters ready to sell. My mechanical design changes have made it much easier to assemble, with only one difficult task - soldering the new cable to the lux meter cable, which has very tiny and brittle wires. I'm not happy with that part, but it may not be something I can make any easier.

I'm sure your absolutely sick of getting PMs about this by now, but how soon do you think that new batch of PAR meters will be done? I'm really interested in getting one, just like half of the members in this forum are... haha.
I'd also just like to thank you for all of the amazing work you've done with PAR. You've been an amazing help to me personally, and these fish-hobby forums need more people like you!

The light intensity produced by a LED light, with LEDs spread out over the top of the tank, drops roughly proportional to the distance between the light and the substrate. Once the light is about as far from the substrate as its length, the intensity transitions to dropping with the square of that distance.

Ok, thanks Hoppy! I had asked a question on the San Antonio Aquatic Plant club Facebook page, regarding how much extra light I need to plan for if I want to suspend an LED fixture over my 20L instead of having it rest on the tank. Some have said that the fixture may produce too much light for such a shallow tank, so I may raise it up a few inches, and thought I would see if there is any formula for how much the light diminishes per inch raised. If you know of any article on that topic, please send me a link; but otherwise, thanks and have a great week! Neat drawer slide apparatus, by the way.

mmorales, I'm not sure what post you are referring to. My last post on the subject was about using drawer slides to suspend the light. It is here: This is how my light is now suspended, and it is working great.

spidangular, that is a very interesting idea, but I think I will leave it to some one with a better sense of comedy to do it.
