    Sarah - I don't think java ferns are too finicky about wood type. I'd guess, though, that it probably does take them a little longer to attach to really hard or smooth woods like African mopani or California manzanita. I had mine growing on some softer generic bog wood, which my LFS gets from a dealer who drives all over the U.S. Southeast and Mid-Atlantic ... a little Flourish Excel (liquid carbon) with each water change, and light from a south-facing window, and my java ferns were firmly rooted in couple of weeks, and spreading. It was cool to snip the rubber bands, and see that the ferns didn't float off!

    Cheers for the spelling correction. No luck so far on attaching the fern to the pot. I just did it two days ago... hmm. What type of wood does it like?
