Young yellow lab fry with even younger rusty fry in a ten to grow a bit. Can't do that! cichlids kill small fish, right? Not if they are too young or the fry are too big too swallow?

This is of my pre-plants days! A 75 with Moori, not quite fully mature which I foolishly sold before they started breeding. They do seem to mature slower than some. Yellow labs, one holding female in the center of the picture as well as several smaller ones. And the grey with black spots are immature (juvie) hap ahli and an algea eater on the rock. In this tank, there would be several open spots under the rocks and one or another male would set up shop there or at the edge and try to coax a ripe female to stop. If she chose to they did the egg laying dance and she picked up the eggs and left. He never moved too far away to avoid losing his territory. They did set up a special spot but it never seemed any real trouble other than fish had to learn to go around a bit further or up and over if they did not want to deal with the male. See the small yellow labs? No death and destruction that I could see.
