My flippin rant!

So I have had one of the crappiest days. I am a mostly cash accepting chiropractor.
I have a few patients with insurance and I have had it! I am thinking of going no health insurance accepted! Cash only!
I have an insurance company tell me today that they don't cover maintenance care its medical necessity only...BUT they don't pay for an exam!!! WTF is that? What incentive to I have to do an exam at all? I have no reason to actually figure out what is going on... its insane!!! I don't do this for fun! I need to make a living right?
Then I get a statement saying a few claims were paid, but these insurance company morons don't send the check to me...NO that would make too much sense...so they send it to the patient who is supposed to bring it to me, BUT the patient never received it...its lost...I can't get any info from the flipping insurance company other than it was sent!!! They can't track it, they just know it wasn't cashed...HUH!!! SO I call the patient because now I have to have them call the insurance company and tell them they never got the check!!! I lost it!!! Her I was talking to the insurance company and telling them that the patient had moved...so the girl on the line asked if I knew the patients new address...I stopped and asked her "so what your saying is...I can't get any info about the check, you don't send it to me, and now your going to rely on me to update the patients info in your system...?" I swear I almost burst into flames!!!
Thanks for letting me vent!!!

I did insurance billing and collections for many years and I finally lost it and quit. I always thought that if I could get paid somehow for my services, I would visit doctors all over the state and try to convince them to refuse insurance contracts and go cash only. I'm going to leave it at that before I write a 2 page rant myself.

Have to say I love my Chiro. When I lost my insurance he just charges me $30 for a good adjustment and everything else. When I had insurance I was paying a $15 co pay plus $200 a month and all I used it for was to get adjusted. Had I known his non insured cash rate I would have never got insurance. Also he is great if I'm short on cash he will hold my check for me to till payday.

We also have a MyChiro location actually 3 of them that do NO insurance and a walk in setting. They charge $20-25 I forget which but refuse insurance. This placed is alsway got clients coming and going and they are a firm believer that these services should be affordable to all. They also offer 1 hr massages for $45. My wife is a massage therapist and works there or will go back once the shes healed up after the baby in another 8 weeks.

At this point I would go cash only if I were you. It's only going to get worse. I've seen and read a lot of stories about family doctors dropping insurance acceptance or just moving out of the US to somewhere tropical because their days have been taken up filing paperwork with insurance companies rather than seeing patients.

Good luck, hoping everything works out.

Just wait till they get the government involved.

(in best Movie Trailer Guy deep voice imitation)

From the people that brought you FEMA and The Post Office comes ........
Universal Health Care ............ YAY !!!!!!!

Nothing new here. Next time you are in hospital and they give
you the bill, ask for the "cash price" ...... usually cut bill in half.

Thats why I self-insure for my health insurance. ...........

rbarn,
don't even get me started, I've been following this issue for a long time, since I started school during the Clinton years. That may have been a better time to try something like this, but not now with the ecomomy the way it is...This latest 'idea' will absolutely end in disaster...there is no doubt in my mind.

We have the best healthcare the world over, it needs major, major shifts and tweeks, but it is the best. That is why all you see on Cable health/discovery programs is people being flown from all over the world to have access to our Doctors and Hospitals.

This is also not the forum to take sides and argue, I was just letting off steam about a cruddy day...The evening has been pretty great...I worked on my MS tank and pulled some stuff and added a few things...working on a rescape of one side.
Later!

The best healthcare available, and most people can't afford it (lol, especially my age, college student; god forbid something actually happened). Kind of like living harlem and being like "well, wall street is in the same city!"

my father in-law has a "cash-only" practice and he loves it. My wife said he went to cash about 8 years ago because of the bs with the insurance compines. He takes medicare and that it is. He charges $30 a visit and from talking to him he gets 4 to 5 new patients a day.
Go for the cash pratice it will save you a lot of stress
