Superglue the apistasia, inject boiling water with a syringe, or apply kalk paste! Emerald crabs will take care of the bubble algae. Or if there's not too much, remove the rocks and brush the bubbles off. Prevention/early treatment is always best.

Yeah, I actually just ordered an emerald crab for reefcleaners with my cuc. No I need to order my ato switch and the iceprobe thing.

How do I go about gluing the ap? I have supreglue gel on hand.

Just squeeze a bunch of glue all over it. If it's big, I'll take a scalpel or scissors as close to the base of it as possible and cut it off. Throw away (in a safe manner) the head of it and then apply a liberal amount of glue over what's left on the rock. It'll kill it and prevent it from growing back.

So just tank the whole tube of glue underwater to apply the glue? They are at the very bottom of my rockwork

or you could inject it with kalkwasser.
emerald crabs sometimes eat bubble algae, sometimes dont. my first one was excellent, so if you get the right individual, you are set. it will eat your kelp too though (thats the red macro algae you have). they have it in my LFS.

Your tank is so inspirational. I've got those thoughts about starting a nano cube , I even have a large collection of saltwater fishkeeping books, but I never did it actually. Then I found your thread Anyway, I wish you good luck with your reef. I was wondering if you could keep anything with stock light from those cubes, like biocube or nancoube, beacuse everytime someone buy those, they always upgrade lighting. What do you think?

that hitchhiker algae looks a lot like a nudibranch. you can get a lot of cool seaweeds as algae. seaweeds have fascinating reproduction strategies and other biological characteristics. be careful with those zooanthids. i had a friend who had some just like those appear live rock. she accidentally intoxicated herself by touching them! the left side of her face was temporarily paralyzed and she was not able to speak straight for a couple of days.

i agree that you should be able to get those Aiptasia and bubble algae in check with some prudent control measures, especially if you get them right away and are managing nutrients/water quality.

99% of the people out there do.

There's always one or two who use tap water though.

I know two people that use local tap water for their SW tanks. Craziness as I don't even drink it!

The toxin some (don't think they all have it) zoanthids contain, palytoxin, is one of the deadliest in the world. I don't mess around with them, or anything in my SW tanks for that matter (always wear protection!). Simply isn't worth the one in a million chance of something funky happening (and killing me).

Yeah, I have heard horror stories about zoas as well. I have some gloves that I use if I ever need to touch them

If you have really good tap water then no, but chances are your tap water isn't that great.
