No. They do break rules though and get away with it because of other cops, etc.

If a cop is on duty and on the interstate speeding it is the same as if they are off duty. Either way, they are breaking the law. The funny thing is that they are setting the speed limit by what they will allow. If they are going 75 in a 55 mph zone and you pace them at that speed then the speed limit right then and there is 75.

If an off duty cop is speeding and gets stopped, usually flashing their credentials is enough to get out of a ticket. I remember my uncle getting a ticket one time anyway (well away from his jurisdiction).

Has anyone seen those stickers on people's cars that are a like a black flag with a blue or purple stripe through it. I see them a lot here in MA and i was told that those are stickers that identify families of cops.

I agree...it is a potentially violent crime. Many people are killed from street racing. And it is not like cops can just cruise around looking for shootings and stuff...

really? i live in ks for over 10 years and i didn't know that, but i do know if they are out of their jurisdiction, they can't give u a ticket no matter what, and yes, even if your drunk, you might be able to get away with it, but i haven't been back in years, not sure how much of that is changed...

crazy or pysco stupids.

Acually,

Around the year 1700, the slang verb cop entered English usage, meaning "to get ahold of, catch, capture." By 1844, cop showed up in print, and soon thereafter the -er suffix was added, and a policeman became a copper, one who cops or catches and arrests criminals. Copper first appeared in print in 1846, the use of cop as a short form copper occured in 1859.

I don't know, but I've seen plenty of people blow through red lights, even with a cop there in front, and they do nothing. I know here in Missouri and Illinois there is a law that cops cannot pursue a bike at 110+ and I think something with cars, maybe it was a case like that, where it wouldn't be safwe enough for him to pursue. I mean, if they are going that fast, the cop has no chance to catch them unless he radios ahead. Let me tell you, I've passed a cop before at 130+ and he was out of my sight, and I was gone before he had time to hit the lights. Cops know when they don't have a chance. My .02
