To Anyone Considering Using Walmart Bulbs!

DON'T!!!

Mine were low quality bulbs... one had a black spot.. and they pry sat around the store for quite some time. The other bulb I got had a defect in the phosphorus coating.. looked like a finger smudge on the inside in middle of bulb. They are also only good for LOW light tanks...(even overdriven they don't produce high light! The plant bulbs are VERY yellow... and so are the sunlight bulbs!!

If anything mix the good GE 9325 bulbs (that drs foster & smith sells for only 5.97 each (24"))with the "Sunshine" bulb that comes in a red carboard sleave...(If I had another spot I would slap one of those in there... ) The GE 9325 freshwater/saltwater bulbs are HIGH output....950 lumens initially... CR of 64. A mix of another bulb may be warrented for better fish coloration. They do produce a light on the lavender side a little, but I use them exclusively on my 20H and a PC version on my 20L (the 20L grows most every thing grows GREAT... my ludwigia looks like Poinsettias!! Maybe more experianced and knowledgable people know more about the light requirements of plants but I believe that this bulb is all around the best bulb to have.. if that is ALL you have.

What "WalMart Bulbs" are you talking about?

My local WM carries both GE "Sunshine" (Chroma50, 5000K) and "Daylight Ultra" (SP65, 6500K). Both are excellent lamps, and the SP65 has an initial lumen output of 3050.

yea, you probably got the wrong color spectrum bulbs from your walmart.
