Just got my new lights
I picked up new light 4x65 watt pc's I'm now running 2 65w accentic (sp) aka blue and 2 65w white..With LED luner's
And man this thing is bright i no longer need a lamp in my living room.... Now i think i may be over doing the lights on my 55g with this much light on the tank I have some 55w bulbs kicking around i may swithc out for but they're are the 50/50 Can you over light a tank |

Absolutely you can overdo lighting. The result will be out of control algae. I have 2 55's with 4x65's over them but I only run 2 of the 4 for a portion of the photoperiod. You are not really getting benefit from all four of your bulbs though. Actinic bulbs come on Salt water lights. They are for reef tanks. They don't do a whole lot for plants. I have also read where some say actinic will increase algae but I have no personal experience with this. I would swap them out for a freshwater bulb.

Depends on the bulb, some of the actinics hit the blue band plants want perfectly, others miss it completely. Not all of them are useless for plant growth - but all of them need to be paired with bulbs supplying the red spectrum plants need, too. Hope that makes sense.
