Halogen bulb G4 12V 20W on a 2.5g

Hi guys, 1st timer here.

Just got my tank running yesterday. Leaves are browning on my Green wendii, kind of getting worried.

Is a Halogen bulb G4 12V 20W enough lighting for a 2.5g ?

I'm not sure if halogen is of any use. You might want to get one of those power compact desk lamps for your nano instead.

Halogen bulbs aren't great.

Look up the Hamilton Bay lights that are 27W. They'll work well for a 2.5g.

Does anyone have a direct link to purchase this "Hamilton Bay" light? I've been reading about it in several threads. Seems like Home Depot sells them? I'm going to see if i can order it online and pick it up locally.

Thanks

I had some trouble tracking down the Hampton light in some Home Depot. To this date I can't find it. You'll have to keep trying until you find it

Get a desk lamp that can take a standard incandescent bulb and pick up a daylight compact fluorescent. It serves the same purpose as the Hamilton Bay but without a proprietary bulb and for substantially cheaper.

Halogen bulbs do work. Amano uses them over some of his cube tanks. But a good portion of the wattage is translated to heat instead of light. So ultimately, while halogen is not necessarily bad (inefficient, but not bad), I think yours is underrated for the application, at only 20w. I think halogen would be sufficient at >50w.

I agree on the home depot lamp. I use one over my 5 gallon and it is an AMAZING lamp!

Is this what I need? I just found this at the local hardware store down the street. It was only 26 bucks after tax!

27W CF 6500k.

Good find. I haven't personally seen that exact lamp before, but its specs are good. It's got a good spectrum lamp, it's good wattage, and it's an adjustable gooseneck so you can place it above the tank properly.

Sounds good to me.

Hopefully you won't run into any problems with the gooseneck not being tall enough or long enough to place over the tank properly. Seems like you should have no problems, but it's hard to tell from that pic. It's the only thing i can think of to mention.

Man I tried to fit that large base on the lamp somewhere because it looks butt ugly on my dinner table. (I live in a small 1 bdrm apartment) I even tried to stick it behind the refrigerator sideways.. didn't work because the goose neck wouldn't stay. Ended up making accommodations.

Holy crap.. what a difference in light/color.
Thanks guys!

edit- Here's a pic of the box for good reference
