Upgrading Lights
So, after re-doing my 55g I decided that my NO flourescent light was a joke, I ordered the Aqualight 48" freshwater fixture putting out 130watts, so over 2wpg now. Do I need to be looking into CO2 now or will there be enough from fish, after I add them(shortly after the light...its been done cycling for over a week and a half. I just have the CO2 kit with bubble ladder(nothing fancy like compression), will that work alright? All I'm keeping are some jungle val, crypts, and a few others. Thanks much!

Hi Adam,
With a little over 2 WPG, you should definitely consider CO2 and a regular fertilization routine as well. In terms of CO2, pressurized is the most hassle-free and economical way for you to go, especially on a tank that is 55g. The DIY CO2 kit that you have right now will not be sufficient enough to adequately/consistently supply the plants you have with CO2.

Right on, I was kinda figuring you would say that...oh well, I'd rather just go semi high tech on the 55 rather than the 135. I'm going to start looking around for items.

Definitely get yourself a pressurized co2 setup. They are afordable now and you will see its one of the best upgrades you will make. Plant growth will improve greatly and algae will recede. I tried the whole DIY thing years ago and I love my pressurized co2. You buy it one time and if your into the hobby you will think its well well worth it.
