Hi

I am in need of a good lighting hood/system for my 55 gallon tank as it is going to be pretty heavily planted...

Right now I have only one 40 Watt light with small hood...
But I want to know what is a good lighting system that has 2-3 bulbs with good wattage for around 100

Or what do you all recommend?

You only posted an hour ago. But I know what yah mean.

I would check out AH Supply. You can get a 2x55 CF light that should fit the tank. Need to make a hood for it but for $65 or something you get everything except for the bulbs. And those are cheap.

I have one of the smaller units and it is great. Easy to put together.

The other option is a shop light.

Just a question

Is it better to have a Dual Linear Strip lighting and allow it to go from light to semi night - then to night
Does that help benefit the overall feeling for the fish?

IMO, doing it that way mimics nature and gives the fish a more realistic enviorment. But does it benifit the overall feeding, I would say no. On one of my tanks I do the semi one and the other I just do the night one I perfer the semi one, so I guess it would also come down to your preference also.

There are people who go as far as setting up mist to mimic the natural habitat and to prompt their breeding mood. I use none of those including sunrise and sunset setup and all my cichlids breed like nobody's business.

Loko, just set up something that match your taste. Some people use different kind of color temp. bulbs to create that effect.

For $100, I would get an All-Glass 2x55w strip light. Big Al's has them for a little over $100 ($106, I believe) and they include the 9325K bulbs, which have proven to be excellent plant growth bulbs.

Just a suggestion, maybe you should post your question in the lighting section instead of equipment section. I had to look thru 3 different forum to search out your post, to answer your question for you.
