effect of temperature on efficiency
Am I insane or was there a post around here about the effects of high temperature decreasing the output of a bulb? I cant seem to find it with search at all.
Basically I want to know if removing my acrylic cover from the T5 bulbs will increase light output by decreasing the effect of temperature. I'd be really grateful if someone could point me to a post with that kind of information. |

well with out finding that post I can say that all florescent bulbs have a sweet spot for optimal performance. I believe this is around 70deg so anything you can do to get heat away from the light will help brightness and bulb life. Just remember that just because you eye can't see the change dose not mean the plants can't. The human eye is not that good at picking small changes in lighting

t5ho bulbs run optimally at about 90-95F
taking off the acrylic cover is probably not going to significantly increase output. Taking off the cover and using a little clip-on fan or installing some computer type fans will.
