Nice comparison of light distribution in different fixtures..

An old, but still relevant and informative article.

Nice work..!

You can make a 2D or a 3D version of this with a single light meter measuring PAR.

Just plot the points on a grid to enter them and for the 3D version, add elevation.

One issue with this test etc, no water, no lid and other common things that are normally in the way inside the tank.

Using a light meter and grid, you can take such measurements for each tank's specific conditions in situ.

Now take the idea of static movement lighting and consider how the pattern might be if you move the lighting, back and forth, or side to side etc?
Those center hot spots are spread out.........

And you need less light watts ands can lower the lighting over the tank, so no light spray is out into the room, the reduced light watts reduces the heat transfer to the tank which makes up for the closer distance.

Regards,
Tom Barr

If your interested in MH I know Sanjay Joshi has done various testing of fixtures as well as a multitude of bulbs/ballasts. Unfortunately most of the bulbs are geared for SW but there are many 10,000K's and a few less. http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/articles.htm
