Joliet / Will County ?

Anyone here know of any decent LFS in the Will County area ? The consesus seems to be that Scott's Pet Shop in Westchester is THE place to go for live plants, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere closer to Joliet. I also heard Palos Pet Shop on 127th and Ridgeland has a decent selection.

The only 2 in my area are Hobbyland Tropical Fish on Jefferson St. and King Neptunes in Shorewood. They're okay stores, but neither carry live plants. I've gotten some decent fish from Hobbyland before though.

I live in the Lockport area and I often like to make quick stops to petshops I see in my travels. Palos petshop is JUNK! I remember a petshop just off of Route 52 and I-55. Just exit North on Route 52 and I believe it's like 2 miles away on the left side. Either before or after the fire station. Unfortunately, when I went there, I wasn't interested with plants at the time.

Yeah, I stopped at Palos and you're correct. They had 3 stems of pathetic looking hornwort in a tank. Is the place you're speaking of called Deep Reef in Romeoville ? If so, whan I talked to the guy he mentioned they were phasing out live plants.

I talked to the guy at Capture The Sea in Tinley Park and he said they're looking to get a live plant tank going in the next couple weeks, so that could be good.

The place I was talking about, I think, is in Shorewood or Plainfield area. Deep Reef is off of Route 53.

I haven't been to Capture the Reef in ages, since the last time I came, they...
1. Ripped me off by selling my an L-333 pleco for $80, which is normally sold for about $25 at the time.
2. Said they were phasing out their fresh water fish and going with salt.

There's another shop in/around Tinley Park, called Capital Pet Supply. They have average plants. It's on the corner of 173rd and Cicero. If you plan to go there, call for the hours, since they close early at times.

I still like Scott's Pets or Aquarium Adventure, since they usually have nice plant stock.

My cousins, who live in the Joliet area, Upscale Aquatics in Plainfield. I haven't checked it out yet, but I heard it was big.

I just checked out Upscale Aquatics. Very small store, clean tanks, and mostly stocked with marine fish, with few FW. I was amazed how clean the tanks were, so I figured they take care of their fish. That was until I saw their discus. About 3-4 discus 3"-4" in size, kept in appears to be a 10 gallon tank, which also had some wood and plastic plants, so the swimming area was even smaller. Discus were either dark, poor shape, or stunted.

Yeah, I like Scott's. I much prefer Scott's over Aquarium Adventure.

crazy eddie,

I was at Capitol a couple weeks back. They have a decent plant stock, but nothing like Scott's. They did have some neat fish though. In fact, it was the only place in the area that had bristlenose pleco's which I want for my algae clean-up crew.

When I walked into Scott's my jaw dropped. I've never been to a store that had such well kept tanks. The planted tank in the back of the store is beautiful. I'll be going back for more plants in the future.

hi guys.

i'm from up north suburbs around glenview area. and i do sometimes go to naperville to visit my sister or to starv rock, il for fishing/camping. i'm wondering if you guys know any REALLY GOOD LFS that is worth the trip around your areasss? I only found a couple in my area and they don't seem to be worth it because they only carry minimal plants or plant care/maintenance products. thanks!

Splatt3, Scott's is the best so far. It's in Westchester, close to Oakbrook and brookfield area. It's close to the exit of I-294 and Ogden.

They're plants are pretty cheap, last time i was there i got 4-5 plants for under $10. If you want to know the street their right off of 31st street. Don't really go there for fish supplies that often for the fact that is rather expensive.

BTW, DO NOT ever call Scott's for info. The recording is major freaking long and I don't think anyone even cares to answer. The best way I get replies from them is if I fax them my info. If I'm looking for a particular plant or equipment and want to know if it's in stock and it's price, I fax the question. Someone usually call's back with an hour or 2.
