Bleaching flourite
Hey,
I have been neglected my RCS tank and a ton of staghorn algae had grown on my gravel which happens to be Flourite dark. I was wondering if i could bleach the gravel to kill the algae and yet use it again. One more thing is a solution that would be needed if i needed to removed the algae. How about should i start Thanks, Ian

I also recently bleached my Flourite for the same problems you have. I soaked it in a large tub with a stong bleach:water solution. I stirred it up every chance I got over two days to make sure the bleach got to every part of the Flourite. Then I used a lot of dechlor over several days (stirring as much as possible again). A new batch of dechlor was used each day followed by a final rinsing over screen as if I was preparing a new batch. In the end, I did not smell bleach so I put it back in the tank. Unfortunately, I bleached the whole tank and everything associated with the tank so I am in the process of cycling the tank before I can put any fish back in.
