I would like to setup a tank about 90 gallons with only plants, NO FISH. My question is what would be the fert I would need to add to the tank (to replace fish crap
) in addition to the one I supplied in a planted tank with fish as describe below . What about phosphat, etc.Do I need to cycle my tank( with fish food) or in my case it would'nt matter with only plant? Here is the setup i'm planning: - Laterite (first layer AP) and gravel - 3.55 WPG - Pressurise CO2 (by the way; i saw many chart with best CO2 quantity to diffuse; but those qtty where for tank with fish) with no fish; would it be better to add more CO2) - Fert: Seachem Florish, Florish tab, florish Excell Sorry if it is such a basic question

There is not much difference in fertilizing a tank with or without fish.
Obviously, you will need less N and P if the tank is heavily stocked and fed. But either way, you will need to look at NPK and trace elements. A fish-less tank will not cycle, or really slow as leaves start to decompose. Just need to make sure if you DO add some fish one day to add them over a longer period, not a lot at once. |

A plant only tank will establish a nitrogen cycle.
There won't be the same demand on it if there were fish present but it will establish a cycle. You'll probably see a lot of little critters show up in the tank that would normally be food for fish. When the little spots start dancing through the water don't be surprised, you don't need your eyes checked either.

Thanks for the answer. Will see about the critter. . Might start a new hunting club
What about CO2, is the maximun qtty we inject in our tank to protect fish from poisonning or is it the maximun the plant can absorb anyway.
