It's not as efficient as the 2215,and not nearly as versatile.

I knew that the Filstar advocates were lurking around, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Well,at least I know which side of the fence is greener.

Hey i work in the aquarium industry and have for over 20 yrs and Ive suffered thru every cannister known to man - and as Ive publiced stated here in this forum in my first post to this awesome forum, I dislike them very much HOWEVER I have had a lot of experience with them and I tell you from real world experience the ONLY one to get is an Ehiem, anything less and you will one day regret it - I guarantee it. Water damage claims are very expensive, and inconvienent to say the least, cannisters are cheap by comparison and remember you usually get what you pay for...just my .02 worth

I would love to see the new life forms you have growing in that sucker. I love my Eheim as well, but it still requires a good cleaning every couple of months even with a pre-filter on it.

I back flush my classics every 3-4 months, really clean them out about every 8.

My tank water is pristine. Couldnt be any clearer if I tried. It really depends on the type of media you use and the way you have it stacked in the can.

I don't doubt that is the case, but if the filter sucks something up it is going to stay in there until it is physically removed. It may break down into something unidentifiable, but it is still in there. My tank water is very clean as well, but the filter is still part of the tank if it is sharing the same water. Gunk in the filter is the same as gunk in the tank I love my canisters, but at times it is all too easy to forget about them (at least in my case that is all too often true), and I am always shocked at how much accumulates in them.

Point taken.

I remove the floss and it is like mud. When I back flush the canister it is pretty incredible as to what pours out.

With Eheim canisters they are designed to go prolonged periods of time without cleaning. It is way to easy to over clean them and in doing so, you greatly cut their effectiveness.
