seachem plant tank medicine

hey guys im new to the planted tank addiction hehe.. ive been with fish for more than 10 years. experienced in all types of fish but a newbie to plant hehe

i have a 10 gal tank. inside at the moment is ada soil and fertilizers. hair grass and some other type of plant.

i got off a friend who owns a aquarium shop these. he explained to me what they do but i would like more info from people who are experienced in plan tanks..

seachem:

flourish excel
flourish potassium
flourish iron
flourish trace
flourish nitrogen

so if i do a water change, what do i have to add and how much do i add for a 10 gal tank.

if i remember he told me that the main things i need to add every day or every other day is excel to improve and incourage plant growth? and also flourish iron.

potassium. i add that if the leaves are turining yellow?
trace. is that if the newly stems are not growing as fast?
nitrogen. is that to also increase growth?

any help will be appreciated as it is abit confusing..
thanks very much in advanced

ATM I am using Seachem fertilizers until the dry ferts I ordered come in the mail. To dose my 20 gallon long I have used this calculator with some success. You can change the size of the aquarium and it will give you an idea of how much to dose of what fertilizer on which day throughout the week.

Just a suggestion to get you started.

Hi shaun

I wrote an Excel based Seachem fert calculator that's based on their recommendations. It should help you. You just enter the amount of gallons that you want to dose, and left click or hit enter and it gives you the dosages in mLs and when to dose.

It's the attachment at the bottom of the first post.
http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...tor-chart.html

You may need to adjust your dosage for a while because of the richness of the ADA soil and your low plant density. To do this, just enter less gallons for a smaller dosage or if you need to dose higher, just enter more gallons.

Do you have any of these devices to help you dose small amounts from around 0.25 to 10 mL because you have a 10g and some of the dosing amounts are small.?
Pipette
Syringe
Dropper
or any other measuring device(s) that you can measure small amounts

You can use the caps for dosing. 1 thread equals 1 ml, but that might be a PITA.

Do you have Flourish Trace or Flourish comprehensive? The comprehensive is the one that you need and that's most likely the one that you have. Many people call Flourish comprehensive, Flourish trace. Since Seachem has a product call Flourish Trace, it can get confusing.

You might need Flourish Phosphorus.

Post #4 has a conversion that you can use to mix dry ferts with distilled water to substitute for three of the Flourish products. This will save you some money if you need a lot of ferts down the road. Here it is.

Seachem’s products are a little expensive, but they are very good. I know some people would like to cut the cost some and use some of the dry fertilizers that are available.

The following dosing solutions will be practically the same strength as Seachem's macronutrient products according to the online calculators. You then go by Seachem's recommended dosing amounts on the calculator.

Dosing Solutions
- Add 62.2 grams or 11⅛ tsp of KNO3 to 500 mL of distilled water for F. Nitrogen Substitute
- Add 3.5 grams or ¾ tsp of KH2PO4 to 500 mL of distilled water for F. Phosphorus Substitute
- Add 51.0 grams or 8½ tsp of K2SO4 to 500 mL of distilled water for F. Potassium Substitute*

*(This amount approaches the maximum solubility of K2SO4 of 12 grams per 100 mL of distilled water. You will probably need to shake the container each time prior to dosing.)

Online Calculators Used:

http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_p...osage_calc.htm
http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...fertilator.php

IMO, you may omit F. Trace even though it is included in the calculator.

Here's some info about plant deficiencies.

I didn't mean to make this post so long.

I hope this helps you.

Ahh, you explained it much better though lol. That calc has been my best friend for dosing for a couple of months now, btw, so thanks a bunch.

Thank you. I'm glad that it helped you.

Here's a bit more info. You can put it on your computer and since that calculator is Excel 2003 based, you can use all of Excel's features to modify it. You can use the unhide feature to view it. You can adjust the individual formulas any way that you want. You can add more products like Equilibrium, their Buffers, MgSO4, MgSO4∙7H2O, CaCl2, CaCl2∙2H2O, CaCO3, NaHCO3 or anything else that you want to add or do.

Thank you for posting the excel spreadsheet for dosing with Seachem products.
I too have just set up a planted 10 gal and plan on dosing with Seachem. This will be a huge help in doing that.

You're very welcome, Chad!

It's based on the chart below. I made one change to what Seachem has on the chart.

Seachem recommends 5% water changes and I wrote 50% on it. Seachem Support said that's it's fine to do 50% water changes if you want to. That's what I did and it worked. It's really up to the people using this to do their water change regimen as they wish.

Hi missmymisay

I hope that either that chart or the Excel based Seachem fert calculator works well for you.
