A couple of places worth a look are:
Marine warehouse 8021 W Hillsborough Ave Tampa 33615 813 884 0787 Westside aquariums They have moved recently and are not up to speed on stock right now, but will be in the new year. Do not know the current address but they are on S Dale mabry, about 1mile N of Gandy on the W side of the rd. I think this is the # 813 839 4751.... Maybe give them a call first.....can't help you with FT Lauderdale. Hope this helps PHalas |

Marine Warehouse is the best around here. They have a poor plant selection but lots of plant supplies. Also the best place around to buy fish and other critters.
I haven't been to Westside, is it new? The plant selection in this area is very weak to say the least.

They were off Gandy somewhere but they recently moved, I think they were more large pond orientated.
I have not had much dealings with them and although they are in a process of relocating they still have quiet a few plants. The guy who runs it seems very knowledgable and easy to deal with. The plants also are very reasonable. As mentioned earlier, a place to look for in the near future! Have to agree with you about marine warehouse, but the plant selection has improved...I think the guy Steve who works there has turned it around alot. I also in the past bought some stuff from a plantfarm off hwy301....prices were very good....just a little difficult to catch them home. |

I'll have to check out Westside, but I don't get over to Tampa much.

Yes the name of their business is Everglades Aquatics or something... Their website is aquaticplantdepot.com I have been there several times and chatted with them. A few things worth noting. They some of the reddest and healthiest Macrandra and Wallichi I have ever seen. They grow all their plants (for the most part) in concrete tubs with filtered sunlight. They specialize in water lillies. I asked about their water parameters and they had no idea because they don't test. They said they thought their pH was, "like 7." They said they get their water from a well which is supplied from the Zephyr Springs over there, so it is probably fairly soft, but I can't be sure. I can only surmise the Macrandra and Wallichi get all their color from the bright sunlight.

The Fish World on Armenia Ave is another place to check out. There aren't a lot of plant customers (based on usual stock) but she (Cathy, the owner) is very knowledgeable. A few customers (myself included) bring in clippings and such, you never know what you will find. Worth a look but don't expect anything exotic, but you never know.

I just setup my tank with plants exclusively from aquatic plant depot. They were great...have never missed a beat. Plants have been planted for about 3 weeks and I'm trimming like crazy. I think the fact that they are grown submersed as a opposed to emersed makes all the difference in the world.
