My tank is cycled. It is a 44gal, but probably closer to 35 gallons of water. It is on its way to being heavily planted. I am worried about overstocking. I currently have 6 sunset platies. I'd like to get the following:
6 lemon tetras
4 or 5 corys or ottos
Maybe 2 or 3 ghost shrimp for kicks!
Is that too much animal life??

I dont think it is overstocking. I would add some more lemon's as they really look best in large groups.

You can definatley have that many fish. The speicies listed are all community fish and since your tank is planted you shouldn't have to worry about exess nitrate or ammonia from a large fish load. Actually you could still get a few more fish in my opinon. Maybe a pair of Rams, Kribs or some Gouromies to add few larger fish to the tank. Also you might want to get more ghost shrimp to make a dent and algae plus with only 3 or 4 in a planted 44 gallon you may see them only once a month.

I got 6 ghost shrimp and they are hysterical! They swim to the top and try to snatch food from the platies. Now I'm thinking of adding a school of 8 lemon tetras and maybe a school of 10 zebra danios. Plus four ottos. I still am concerned about overstocking. The tank is heavily planted. Great advice from everyone. Thanks!!

Looking below you'll see what I have in a 25 gal tank. Actually, the total of fish comes to 24. My tank is absolutely flourishing, no pun intended, based on my dosing. Neons look Great in a planted tank. I was sorry I put in the glo-light tetras,as they don't show as well as I thought they woudl.

They probably haven't gotten used to your feeding routine yet. They'll figure it out soon enough, they're still adjusting to the new crib.

You were right Marcel, thanks. You should see those lemons zip up and snatch food right in front of some very confused platies....funny! My ghost shrip actually climb to the highest plants when I feed and snatch flake too!
